Opportunity Village is celebrating its 60th anniversary of serving Southern Nevada and building the future for the next sixty years and beyond. The Christopher’s Crossing Comprehensive Capital Campaign is in full force to address the mounting needs and raise $136 million to fund every facet of the plan. To date, over $90 million has been raised including a $35 million matching gift from the Engelstad Family Foundation. The Campaign will fund two residential communities, a fourth employment resource center campus in north Las Vegas, expansion at the Henderson and Engelstad campus and complete the Revive & Renew project at the West Oakey Campus.
The immediate concern is the development of residential housing to create two unique intentional communities-much like Sun City-where people with disabilities can live socially connected, active lives. With only 176 scattered site group homes in the Las Vegas area, the need is reaching a critical point. The Opportunity Village communities are designed as accessible neighborhoods with houseparent staffed homes and volunteer programs to enrich the lives of the residents. The communities will be located adjacent to Opportunity Village’s Buffalo Campus and the soon-to-be-built north Employment Resource Center Campus using the live/work/play philosophy of social urban living.
